Improve room acoustics at windows, doors and ceilings

How to improve room acoustics at windows, doors and ceilings? The difficulty is well known as in almost every house and flat there are specific areas (e.g. windows, doors and ceilings) that cannot be insulated with conventional room acoustic solutions against sound and noise.
For example a window: in order to achieve a sound insulation for your problem we recommend our product aixFOAM SH001 (acoustic foam panel with smooth surface). You should use a wood board as a basic that fits into your window-indentation. This board is plastered with absorbers on one side. For an effective insulation you should at least use an absorber with a material strength of at least 80 millimetres. For optical reasons we recommend the covering with our acoustic cloth. This does not only look very nice it also intensifies the absorber´s performance. After that the board with the sound absorbers can be attached to the window (from inside of course). It is important that the absorption element and the acoustic cloth face to the side of the room. By doing so, the impinging sound can be absorbed perfectly.

When it comes to the insulation of doors you should use a system solution. For the absorption of low frequencies you need a material that is especially effective at medium and low frequencies. We recommend our aixFOAM SH0131 which has been designed for this field of application. Additionally a second layer SH001 (polyester) should be installed. With strength of 50mm this material is very effective in medium and high frequencies. Usually these acoustic elements are covered with acoustic cloth whereas this cloth is attached to the door with nails or with the help of a stapler. Alternatively you can also use a perforated metal plate or a wooden perforated plate. The amount of holes should be at least 30%.

Ceiling: in a modern building ca.40% of the wall- and ceiling surface should be pointedly covered with sound absorbers.
For the effective shortening of reverberation time the ceiling is usually completely covered with acoustic foam panels. By this measure the reverberation should be shortened sufficiently.
For the ceiling we recommend our absorber aixFOAM SH001 or optically more appealing our absorber aixFOAM SH004. The absorber should have material strength of at least 50mm. You can also use absorbers with lower material strength but in this case the performance of the absorbers decreases.
