Retrofitting sound insulation for doors
When it comes to soundproofing buildings, soundproofing the windows and doors is a particular challenge. In contrast to solid masonry, these components vibrate relatively easily and transmit sound. It is therefore advisable to install special soundproof windows and soundproof doors when renovating the building. However, these are relatively expensive, so that it makes sense to retrofit sound insulation on conventional or pre-existing doors.
In the following text you will find practical tips and brief installation instructions for effective soundproofing of your door with our aixFOAM acoustic elements.

Reduction of structure-borne and airborne noise
Often doors do not close completely, creating a gap between the door leaf and door frame. Through these gaps, noise in the form of airborne noise can get directly into an adjacent room. As a first measure, you should use suitable seals to ensure that these joints are largely closed.
The design of modern doors also presents the disadvantage that they are very light and easily transport incoming sound. In order to achieve effective soundproofing on a door, sound transmission (structure-borne noise) must be minimised.
Structure-borne noise is the transmission of sound waves within a solid medium. It arises when airborne sound hits a solid body. This allows windows and doors, for example, to become sound conductors. For the targeted reduction of structure-borne noise, ideally you need a material that increases the mass of the respective sound conductor and therefore reduces vibrations and unwanted sound transmissions.
